2011 Chi-Town Shootout

March 4 - 6, 2011
Leisure Hours Raceway - Joliet, IL

The Leisure Hours Raceway in Joliet, IL held the Chi-Town Shootout March 4th through the 6th. This year was the biggest Chi-Town race ever, with 323 total entries! On top of the four qualifiers and mains, the weekend had four extra races added into the normal format. After three rounds of qualifying there was a 'Dash For Cash" for the top four drivers in the three biggest classes. A thirty minute endurance race for 15 two man teams was also held.

The three biggest classes this year were Mod SC, Mod Buggy and Stock SC; after three rounds of qualifying, Novak Team Driver Mike Nelson was in 5th in Mod SC. In the endurance race, Nelson teamed up with Corey Crosley, using a Novak powered SC10™ to win the race. They led the majority of the first 15 minutes and the team pushed the truck to gain a decent lead. After a mandatory pit stop, they lost the lead, but gained it back with the power of the Ballistic 8.5! They took the win with the closest competitor several laps back. The Kinetic temped at about 130 degrees and the Ballistic 8.5 was just less than 200 degrees. After the race, many were in disbelief that Mike could take the win with an ESC and motor that didn't overheat.

After finishing 2nd in the final round of qualifying, Mike finished 4th in Mod SC out of 57 entries. From the start of the A main the top two got away as three drivers battled for third place; lap after lap they battled and swapped positions, with about a minute to go Mike finally got a little separation and was able to secure a third place finish.

Congratulations Mike!
